The Crucifixion Of Jesus…A Victimless Crime

Oh, That Mr. Friel

I was listening to Wretched Radio (@ the week before Easter, and Mr. Friel (Todd Friel that is) was discussing the portrayal of Jesus, especially in the History Channel’s “The Bible”, and he pointed out that Jesus was NOT a victim, but a VOLUNTEER.  Jesus was a willing participant in his own death, as was laid out in God’s plan to save the world (Isaiah 53:10).

Lamb of God

Sin came into the world early on, and since the time of Moses, the Israelites offered yearly sacrifices of a spotless lamb (or other animal) so that God would forgive their sins from the past year.  “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Hebrews 9:22.  Jesus’ cousin John the Baptist, called Jesus, “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1: 29).  Jesus became the sacrificial lamb, given by God, for the forgiveness of our sins “once for all” (Hebrews 10:10), so that the yearly, Passover, sacrifice would no longer have to be made.  Nothing could prevent Jesus from dying on that cross; God’s will was done.

Not The End

This story does not end with His willing death.  He told his disciples that he would return.  Jesus’ resurrection, solidified His Godhood to the world, and whether the world accepts Him or not, the truth remains, Jesus was a volunteer to His crucifixion, and not a victim.
